What happened to Hytale’s own Model Maker?
In January 2019 Hytale showed the Hytale Model Maker, its own tool for modelling, texturing and animating. Modders still search for it. Here is what happened to it, and what people use to make Hytale models today.
What the Hytale Model Maker was
Hytale’s post “Take a closer look at Hytale Model Maker” (18 January 2019) introduced it as a browser and app-based toolkit for modelling, texturing and animation that would come with the game. It was shown years before Hytale’s early access, which began on 13 January 2026.
What replaced it
Hytale’s modding strategy post of 20 November 2025 lists a Blockbench plugin among its tools and says it “Replaces our own modelling and animation tools used in the past to better support established creative workflows in the community.”
The plugin arrived with Hytale’s introduction to making models on 22 December 2025. In the Blockbench plugin list it is called Hytale Models; version 0.11.0 is the latest as of 17 October 2026. It runs in desktop Blockbench and in the web app, and it reads and writes the two Hytale model formats: .blockymodel for models and .blockyanim for animations.
Some wiki and fan pages still describe the 2019 tool, or say it is coming. They were written before Hytale switched to Blockbench.
Where the Asset Editor fits
The Hytale Asset Editor runs inside the game. The modding post calls it an “Editor for data assets”: the definitions of items, blocks and other content. Models, textures and animations are art assets, made in Blockbench and referenced from those definitions. The post also notes “notable limitations around NPCs, world generation, and interactions”.
Asset packs you create in the Asset Editor are stored in the world you made them in, according to Hytale’s asset pack docs; copy them to the Mods folder to use them elsewhere.
Making Hytale models in a browser
The closest thing to an online Hytale model maker is the Blockbench web app with the Hytale Models plugin installed from File → Plugins. Community tools help too: the Hytale Garage BlockyModel editor imports, edits and exports .blockymodel files, and the MyHytale model viewer shows one with its texture.
Making a Hytale model with AI
Myrlin Studio builds Hytale models with AI. Describe the model or show a picture, review the credit price, and Studio delivers the editable .blockymodel with a painted PNG texture atlas, plus saved .blockyanim clips when the model has animations. You open and change them in Blockbench like any other model, and you still write the item, block or NPC definition that puts them in the game.
Myrlin Studio is its own product; it is not the Hytale Model Maker. Start a Hytale model, see what Studio makes for Hytale, or inspect the painted teapot, a real Studio model published with its files.
The files you end up with
- .blockymodel: the model, a JSON tree of cubes and quads. See the format explained.
- PNG texture: one image painted for the model, in multiples of 32 pixels. See the model limits.
- .blockyanim: animation clips that move the model’s named nodes.
Questions
- Is the Hytale Model Maker still available?
- Hytale does not offer it. Its modding post of November 2025 says the Blockbench plugin replaces the modelling and animation tools it used in the past, and its modelling post of December 2025 introduced that plugin.
- What do Hytale modders use to make models?
- Blockbench with the Hytale Models plugin, which Hytale released in December 2025. It makes .blockymodel models and .blockyanim animations in the format the game reads.
- Is there an online Hytale model maker?
- Blockbench runs in a web browser and the Hytale Models plugin works there too. Community tools such as the Hytale Garage BlockyModel editor also edit .blockymodel files in the browser.
- What is the Hytale Asset Editor for?
- It is the in-game editor for data assets, the definitions of items, blocks and other content. Models, textures and animations are made in Blockbench and then referenced from those definitions.
- Can AI make a Hytale model?
- Yes. Myrlin Studio builds Hytale models with AI from a description or a picture and delivers the editable .blockymodel and PNG texture, which you can open and change in Blockbench.
Facts checked on 17 October 2026 against Hytale’s posts and docs for 0.7.2 (Update 7) and the source of the Hytale Models plugin 0.11.0 for Blockbench, not tested in the game. Hytale renames files and nodes between updates, so check the patch notes for anything newer.
